Police are hunting burglars who stole six firearms from locked cabinets in a Marton sports shop last night.
Police are seeking witnesses to the 9.45pm incident where thieves broke into Rangitikei Rods and Rifles on Broadway in Marton, activating the store's alarm.
Two pump-action shotguns, two rifles and two air rifles were stolen, along with a small amount of cash and two firearms carrybags.
"At that time of night it is likely there would have been cars and pedestrians in the area and police are seeking witnesses to the burglary or information about those responsible and the current whereabouts of the firearms," said Detective Constable Graham Perks, of Marton.
