A startled burglar left behind bags of frozen meat they intended to steal, as they fled the scene of a Carterton break-in yesterday.
Senior Sergeant Mike Sutton said the occupants of a house in Victoria St got up to get their children ready for school and found frozen meat had been taken from the freezer and bagged up, but left behind by the burglar, who stole a laptop and radio.
"The offenders have entered a residential property in Carterton and it looks like they've gone through a back door and tried to steal some meat out of the freezer."
Mr Sutton said the burglar or burglars were probably disturbed by the family waking up and fled unseen.
The crime was reported to police at 8am on Wednesday.
