Police investigating the slaying of Feilding farmer Scott Guy are interviewing local robbers and burglars.
A number of recently arrested criminals were being spoken to by the investigation team, Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger said.
"Palmerston North and Feilding police have arrested a number of local burglars as part of normal inquiries. The investigation into the death of Scott Guy has looked at all persons arrested recently as part of their normal course of inquiries, and is still establishing if there are any links," she told the Manawatu Standard.
Mr Guy, 31, was found shot dead in the driveway of his home on Aorangi Rd, south of Feilding, on July 8.
His killer remains at large and police are focusing their efforts on the theft of three puppies from the property.
Ms Schwalger said the investigation hotline had received some useful information about the puppies.
"There are a lot of people out there with legitimate puppies. We certainly need to talk to them, which we have been doing, and we've managed to identify a large number of breeders and owners."
Police were also investigating several vehicle sightings on Aorangi Rd.
"It's about attention to detail and, in particular, on a case such as this, which we don't get a lot of in New Zealand, it is the minute details that we need to pay attention to," Ms Schwalger said.
