A blushing burglar turned himself in to North Shore police after realising he had left too many clues behind.
The 23-year-old man took a bus to Mairangi Bay between 2pm and 3pm on Tuesday and broke into a house through a rear window when nobody was at home, Senior Sergeant Rod Fraser told NZPA.
He then piled a stash of goods near the front door of the home before realising he could not carry them with him.
He left with just a digital music player.
Later he realised he had left his pre-pay cellphone in the house.
He then called the cellphone company to cancel his connection, but in the meantime the owners of the home had returned.
The man then realised police would be able to trace him, so he turned himself in at North Shore police station, Mr Fraser said.
He is due to appear in North Shore District Court on November 2.
