KEY POINTS:
A 28-year-old man who knocked himself out while allegedly breaking into a house appeared in Christchurch District Court today.
Brett Peter Kerr, unemployed, was accused of burgling the house, intentionally damaging it by fire, and resisting a constable.
Police did not oppose his release on bail, but under strict conditions.
The owners' relatives went to the suburban Prebbleton house to find an incoherent man upstairs and a small fire that they were able to put out.
They believed the man may have fallen and hit his head while trying to take a drum kit down a spiral staircase from the loft in the garage.
Police were called and the man's head was bandaged and he was taken away.
