KEY POINTS:
A recidivist burglar is in hospital after crashing during a police chase in Auckland this afternoon.
Police tried to get the man to pull over just after 3pm, when they recognised him as someone they wanted to speak to.
He refused and a four minute pursuit ensued through the suburb of Mt Eden.
Inspector Gary Hill said the chase ended when the offender crashed into another car in Balmoral.
He said the occupant of the other car was unhurt but the offender had moderate injuries and was taken to Auckland Hospital.
Mr Hill said the man was very well known to police for burglaries and robberies.
