KEY POINTS:
It took only three hours for a Bay of Plenty burglar and new dad to breach his bail conditions to blow his last chance to remain in the community.
Traan Kino, 17, who was awaiting sentence on two burglary charges, one of attempted burglary, and a theft charge was granted bail in Tauranga District Court last week, Judge Peter Rollo warning him it was his only chance to prove himself.
"If you mess up on bail you can kiss goodbye to any likelihood of home detention and expect to get a lengthy lag in prison," the judge told Kino who became a father a few days earlier.
Yet four days later Kino was back in court following his arrest for breaching his nightly curfew, the Bay of Plenty Times reported.
The court was told that Kino was released from court about 3pm or 4pm on January 19 and was to be at his Welcome Bay home by 7pm to meet his curfew obligations.
Yet when police did a bail check at 10pm Kino was not home and occupants at the address told police they had not seen him since early Monday.
His lawyer, Nicholas Dutch, told the judge that Kino had experienced problems in relation to staying at the bail address after he was released from court which resulted in the breach.
Despite Kino pleading with Judge Rollo for "one more chance", he was told he had "used up all his credits" and would remain in custody until his sentencing on February 27.
