KEY POINTS:
Staff at Burger King in Manukau were confronted by two armed men early this morning.
An employee taking out the rubbish was confronted by the two men just before 1am today, Senior Sergeant Spencer Matthews said.
He was forced inside the restaurant where three other employees were cleaning.
The offenders threatened the employees with firearms before moving them into a storeroom.
One employee was able to contact police and armed officers and dog handlers surrounded the restaurant.
Police saw the offenders walking around inside the restaurant with a long barrelled firearm, Mr Matthews said.
One employee was released and provided police with information on the condition of those inside.
The rest of the employees were eventually released and the offenders were taken into custody.
The employees were uninjured and were being helped by Victim Support.
Two Auckland men, aged 22 and 24, will appear in Manukau District Court later today.
Police were continuing to examine the restaurant and were confident the firearms would be found.
