KEY POINTS:
Two teenagers convicted of sexually violating a 14-year-old girl in the toilets of a Burger King restaurant on Auckland's North Shore have been sent to jail for three years.
Eighteen-year-old Omar Urlich and 19-year-old Rene Temata have been sentenced on two counts of sexual violation in the Auckland District Court.
They relate to non-consensual sexual acts carried out on the heavily intoxicated teenager at the Takapuna fast food store, after the men drank alcohol with her and a friend at a bus stop.
Judge Mary Sharp said the sentences reflected the harm and degradation caused to the victim.
Detective Darren Attwood said police were hoping for four-year sentences, but knew the men's ages at the time of the offending would probably warrant a discount.
He said the problem is the men are unlikely to serve their full sentences.
A third man charged over the incident is awaiting a second trial.
