Bulls RSA was back in business for its inter-club pool tournament on Tuesday night after a truck and trailer unit travelling south failed to take a slight bend and crashed into the building early in the morning.
The truck smashed through the RSA frontage and brought down part of the verandah.
The 37-year-old driver from Dannevirke was pulled from his cab but died at the scene.
Bulls RSA secretary Margaret Hawthorn said she felt sorry for the driver's family.
A local builder who is a member of the club, and an electrician, got in and helped get the building back in time to reopen later that day.
