KEY POINTS:
Wellington police officers were obliged to put on their cowboy boots and muster up their rodeo skills early today, after receiving reports of a bull wandering the streets of residential Wainuiomata.
A police spokesman said a call came in about 2am, advising of a cow that had been spotted in the middle of the road near Hugh Sinclair Park in the Wellington suburb.
However, shortly afterwards a security guard contacted police saying the "cow" was actually a "large nasty looking bull," that may have come from a farm on Lees Grove, Inspector Chris Tait said.
"So the guys donned their cowboy boots, and managed to round this thing up and herd it into a paddock," Mr Tait said.
Mr Tait acknowledged mustering was not a standard component of police training.
