A perplexed farmer is anxious to recover 14 Friesian bull calves after they were spotted running free close to the Carterton roundabout early on Friday morning.
Nolan Terry of Richmond Rd says it is "a mystery" how they ended up there and where they went since, after a member of the public spotted the calves on the streets of Carterton around midnight.
One calf was later found on Park Rd, but extensive searching by Mr Terry and Carterton District Council has turned up nothing more.
"They can't just vanish into thin air," he said. "We've had five staff driving everywhere, it's been on the radio, but there's no reports of them.
"Maybe they are in someone's paddock and they are not aware of them."
