Tararua District Council and Greater Wellington have joined Wairarapa's aid to Canterbury earthquake victims.
Tararua building inspectors Russell Palmer and Trevor Burlace flew to Christchurch on Thursday to inspect damaged homes in Avonside, Bexley, Brooklyn and Halswell.
Councils across the country received a call from the National Crisis Management Centre under the Beehive, which is seeking 60 building inspectors or building-team leaders for immediate deployment to Christchurch.
Mike Brown, the council's manager environmental services, said the pair would help out for a week.
Greater Wellington Regional Council has flown Wairarapa communications officer Jim Flack and communications manager Brent Sangster to Christchurch to help with public information.
Speaking from Christchurch, Mr Flack said the aftershocks were taking their toll on people. "I was in a meeting with five or six people, and they were looking at each other like they were over it."
Masterton has sent one of its own building inspectors and has a civil defence officer assisting staff at the National Crisis Management Centre.
Also rallying to the cause in a different way is Masterton's Douglas Park School. Next Friday, the school's Pride team is holding a bake sale to raise money for the victims of the earthquake.
