KEY POINTS:
An Auckland building was evacuated this afternoon after a shifting floor made some of its occupants unsure about its safety.
The building on Porters Ave in suburban Mt Eden was evacuated after one occupant on the third level said the floor was lifting and cracking underneath her.
Fire Service northern communications centre spokesman Jaron Phillips said the woman initiated an evacuation about 2.20pm, and the Fire Service helped complete the evacuation to examine the reported instability.
Building inspectors and engineers inspected the scene and allowed people back in at about 4pm.
"The feeling now is that it wasn't movement of the building, it was lifting of the floor tiles," Mr Phillips said.
