KEY POINTS:
North Shore resident Maurice Case is sick and tired of his car being covered in paint and grit from a nearby construction site.
The 65-year-old returned yesterday to his car, which was parked in central Takapuna, to find it spattered with white paint.
He said the paint had blown over from the luxurious, 30-storey Sentinel apartment building being built by Multiplex Constructions.
And it's not the first time it's happened. Mr Case said that on a previous occasion his car had been covered in grit.
"But [yesterday] it was paint. When they put the windows in, they paint around the edge and then they put the frames in. They painted with water-based paint and the wind was blowing from the north and the rain came in and it just blew the whole lot out over the cars in the carpark."
Mr Case said about 20 cars were covered in paint. "It didn't look so bad on my [white] car, but on the blue cars and the red cars it looked absolutely atrocious."
He said Multiplex Constructions had given him a car-cover a couple of weeks ago after he complained about the previous incident.
But he put the cover on only after yesterday's incident.
"It takes a bit of putting on ... so I'm putting it on from here on."
Mr Case said the company cleaned his car and several others after they became covered in grit.
"They left the grit under my windscreen wiper-blades and it scratched my windscreen and I forced them to put a new windscreen in."
He said the problem had been going on for several months and it had been frustrating.
Multiplex Constructions managing director Dan Ashby said he wasn't aware of yesterday's incident, or any previous problems.
"There are occasions when things like that happen ... Construction sites create a certain amount of dust and on occasions it impacts on the public."
Mr Ashby said anyone who experienced such problems should contact the site manager.
"Any issue would be dealt with immediately ... If there was a problem, we would seek to remedy it immediately."
