A woman brutally raped in a car park on Mother's Day is fleeing her South Auckland home of seven years after her attacker threatened to hunt her down.
The 30-year-old mother of three fears for her safety after the chilling threat and is convinced her rapist lives in the Manurewa area.
The woman, known as "Angela," told the Herald of her harrowing ordeal in the hope that a member of the public recognises her attacker and calls police.
Angela was raped and repeatedly violated for up to an hour in a tennis club car park in Manurewa after accepting a lift home by a man on Great South Rd, Papatoetoe, early on Sunday. She had lost her friends at the end of a girls' night out.
The rapist knew his way around Manurewa. During the attack he threatened to come after Angela.
Angela's husband said the couple would have to leave their home because of the attack and threat. "She doesn't feel safe in her own home. Whatever it takes to make her happy."
"Physically she's hurting. Mentally and spiritually she's crushed."
The rapist is a Maori, aged in his late 30s or early 40s, of medium-stocky build, clean shaven with short hair. He has a large green tattoo across his chest and over the outside of the top of his arms. He had a silver sleeper ring in his nose, drove a dark-coloured four-door saloon, and had an old-style Nokia phone in the car.
Detectives were last night continuing the hunt for the rapist. They believe the distinctive description means someone in Auckland will recognise who he is.
Detective Sergeant Neil Grimstone, of the Manukau-based Crime Squad, said it was crucial the "animal" was caught.
