For the South Island, it's much the same. In Wanaka and Queenstown temperatures dropped to -3C overnight but the sunny weather throughout the day brings a high of 10C.
Keep your brollies and gumboots close though, rain is expected for most of the country on Sunday and throughout early next week. However, MetService say severe weather is not expected at this stage.
Anticipation for snowfall on the North Island mountains continues to build as little to none is expected in the next five days. And snow coverage on the Southern Alps mountain tops is very poor with only 25cms.
Next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday New Zealand has a chance of heavy rain coming in from the north and west, after what the MetService says has been the driest six months on record for the Upper North Island.
MetService say the rain would be welcome by many farmers and growers because another dry spell is expected for the first week of July.
Northland has been the worst off. Kerikeri has recorded 449mm of rain so far this year, only 52 per cent of its normal. It is the driest January to June period since records started in 1935.
Whangarei recorded 265mm of rain so far this year, only 42 per cent of its January to June normal.
