KEY POINTS:
Three brothers have been told they may have to move from their Housing New Zealand home of 28 years after their mother died just before Christmas.
Jason Ellis, 35, and his two brothers from Porirua, have been told by Housing New Zealand they must move from their house, because the lease was held by their mother, the Dominion Post reported today.
Their mother died on December 9, a day later they were told they would need to move out and have their housing needs re-assessed.
Housing New Zealand Corporation spokesman Nick Maling told the newspaper the brothers' needs had to be assessed against the needs of others on the housing waiting list.
He said the corporation was not being unsympathetic to the family's circumstances.
Jason Ellis, who is on a sickness benefit, has an appointment for a needs assessment at the Porirua office today.
