A Taranaki brothel's held an open day today to raise money for a children's charity and to demystify some beliefs around the industry.
Hawera's 'Sssssh ...the Adult Fun Spot' held speeches from industry representatives such as Erotica Expo's Steve Crow. Escorts were there to show people around rooms and answer any questions they had.
Operator and owner Nicky Hughes said being more open is the only way to pull the industry out of the gutter and it was a good opportunity to take the dirty connotations out of the business.
Hughes said she's had a positive response from the community and people need to become aware brothels do have a place in society.
All proceeds from the day will go to local children's lunch charity Kai Kitchen.
