KEY POINTS:
Former All Black Zinzan Brooke may be on the mend but he will remain in hospital in Spain for a time.
The 42-year-old underwent surgery last weekend to relieve pressure on his brain, after fracturing his skull in Elche, south of Valencia, where he was coaching the Barbarians. He fell and hit his head on concrete after being dropped at his hotel in a taxi.
Sources close to the family said yesterday that, while Brooke had been given a clean bill of health, with no long-term consequences, he was still not yet fit to travel or be discharged from hospital.
One family source said: "He's pretty lethargic at the moment. It was a big operation, it has knocked him a bit and he is on a lot of medication. He's not speaking all that well yet, because of the medication, so he's not talking to anyone at the moment other than close family."
