Brooke makes second apology

The girl's mother said they had never sought money from Brooke.

Five weeks after Robin Brooke harassed two teenagers while on holiday in Fiji, settlement has been reached between the former All Black and the families of the youths.

The Whittaker family, who claimed that Brooke assaulted their 17-year-old son Jordan on New Year's Eve, released a joint statement with Brooke saying they had reached a confidential agreement. The statement said that Brooke had apologised to Jordan and that all issues had been resolved.

The family had initially sought $200,000 in damages, saying that Jordan had suffered ongoing stress as a result of being grabbed by the throat and thrown on to a deckchair after he intervened when Brooke touched his friend's buttocks.

The agreement followed a settlement with the family of the 15-year-old girl whom Brooke allegedly groped at the Fiji Hilton Spa and Resort on Denerau Island.

The settlement included a public apology by Brooke on TVNZ's Close Up, a $3000 donation to a charity chosen by the girl, a reimbursement of her airfares and legal fees, and a promise to attend alcohol counselling.

The final chapter in the incident will be known when the Fiji police decide whether Brooke will be charged for his actions.

The girl's mother has expressed her concern that if charges are laid, the legal process could mean her daughter would have to revisit the incident during an important year in her schooling.

Both families expressed their disappointment that the incident took so long to resolve, and that lawyers became involved.

The girl's mother said they had never sought money from Brooke, and only wanted accountability and a sincere apology.

Brooke met Jordan a few days after the incident, but not the girl.

His lawyers said it had been a "distressing" experience for him.
