The number of TVNZ employees earning more than $100,000 has increased to 204, up from 181 last year.
Spokeswoman Megan Richards said: "If Sales had a good year there may be staff whose performance bonuses put them in this group. Then, as we are a technology-based industry, we may hire a cohort of IT staff whose salaries are generally higher than the norm. You will get the picture. Nothing in these figures is at all exceptional or out of the ordinary for our industry."
While the days of $700,000 salaries for the likes of Paul Holmes are long gone, anchors Simon Dallow and Wendy Petrie are believed to be among the state broadcaster's top earners, with packages of $300,000-plus.
TVNZ's annual report also reveals that more than $1.5 million was paid out to 34 employees who left, among them former chief executive Rick Ellis.
His replacement Kevin Kendrick is believed to be on $820,000 to $830,000.
