Bride opts for something in blue

Diane Whalley knows how to make an entrance.

Two chauffeured limousines arrived outside the Green Island Scout Group hall in Unsworth St, Dunedin, on Saturday afternoon, one of the city's polling booths.

Then out stepped the bride, who made sure she had her say on election day.

Two minutes later she emerged, and confided she gave her two ticks to ''something blue'', in the form of the National Party, and its Dunedin South candidate, Hamish Walker.

Ms Whalley and her husband-to-be, Gary Shaw, chose their wedding date before Prime Minister John Key announced the date of this year's election.

''We didn't realise it was election day, at first, but we made time to vote,'' she said.

The pair were later married at Larnach Castle, where they had their reception.
