Breakfast presenter Pippa Wetzel has been ordered to put her feet up before giving birth to her second child - but says she won't be able to resist getting up at the crack of dawn to watch the show.
The 32-year-old mother of toddler Brodie waved goodbye to viewers for seven months on Friday before going on maternity leave.
"I should be thrilled that I get to sleep in a bit now but I'm sad," she said. "I will really miss everyone."
"I am looking forward to turning my alarm off next week, but I bet I'll still be up at 6.30am watching it."
Wetzel's place alongside Paul Henry will be filled by Alison Mau.
Hundreds of viewers sent messages wishing Wetzel well during Friday's show, but one message from earlier in the week stuck in her mind.
"Some guy sent 'who's the fat chick?' Well, it is true, look at me!"
Despite feeling "sick and fat", she was named 2009's Woman of the Year by a New Zealand men's magazine.
"It's really, really flattering."
