The SKYCITY Breakers have revealed their latest move into free agency, confirming the signing of athletic big Majok Majok, luring the fringe Boomer away from Championship winning Melbourne United.
69" (2016cm) tall and quick on his feet, Majok arrives ready to make an immediate impact with his agility, speed and work in the paint as the SKYCITY Breakers continue to recruit a roster ready to play an up-tempo and exciting brand of basketball.
Head Coach Kevin Braswell clearly believes he has a good signing in recruiting a player who will bring energy and an irresistible desire to get on the boards.
"Majok is exactly the player we are after, he plays up tempo, crashes the boards at both ends and is an excitement machine above the rim, this should say plenty to Breaker Nation about how we intend to go about things this season, I know the fans are going to love his passion and athleticism.
"I am excited about Majok and what he will bring to us as a club, I have no doubt his best years are in front of him and I am even more pleased that they will be while he is wearing a SKYCITY Breakers singlet."
For his part, the Sudan born Majok is delighted to have landed a contract with the four-time championship winning club.
"I have always liked the SKYCITY Breakers programme, when I played for Melbourne every game against them was tough, I really like what they are all about, their culture and winning championships has captured attention all over Australia and New Zealand.
"The conversation really started with the signing of coach Braswell, I like how he coaches and I am with him now in the New Zealand League, so some of it came down to wanting to play for him this season."
Majok had an injury disrupted season in 2017/18, with Braswell looking to use that as motivation for Majok to tap back into the form that saw him selected in his first Australian Boomers roster in 2017.
"His opportunities have been limited this past season due in part to injury but also the depth in the roster at Melbourne, at just 25 years of age he is about to hit his prime and is capable of making a huge contribution and impact in the NBL. I have already seen some of that first hand in the short time he has been with me at the Saints in the Sals NBL, he is a passionate student of the game and quick to take on board any lessons and I believe can thrive in our Breakers environment."
Majok is also quick to emphasize the desire to bring his best form to New Zealand.
"This past season was up and down for me, the first time for me being injured in my career and sitting out most of the season. I kind of thought maybe people had forgotten what I can do so I cant wait to get back on the floor and remind people what I am capable of and obviously try and win a championship."
