Drivers in quake-hit Christchurch have been urged to avoid the central city after heavy equipment being used to repair quake damage broke down this morning causing delays.
The equipment, which was being used to repair a pothole, broke down on Fitzgerald Ave causing traffic delays in the surrounding streets, Christchurch City Council said.
The northbound lane on Fitzgerald Ave was blocked and delays were expected for the next few hours.
Drivers were urged to avoid north-eastern areas of the four avenues and find an alternative route if possible.
