A warning to the two young men who broke into Michelle Kidd's house while she slept - the police are the least of your problems.
As someone who has dedicated her life to helping the underprivileged and homeless in the Auckland District Court, Ms Kidd has built up an extensive list of criminal friends.
"These people are so angry about what happened to me. I've had to tell them to leave it to the police, otherwise they will get in trouble."
A familiar face at the court through her work at the Lifewise charity - formerly known as Methodist Mission Northern - Ms Kidd was home alone in Mt Roskill on Friday night after a long day at work.
"I was so tired that I fell asleep sitting in my seat. Then I heard a noise and smelt alcohol - and I don't drink - so I started yelling."
Ms Kidd said two "young and agile" men bolted through a narrow side door, then neighbours saw a silver car drive away at high speed.
The pair stole $350 of donations for Lifewise and a cellphone and handbag, which contained her son's marriage certificate that she was about to post.
"It was so hurtful. I had to stay up all night because I couldn't get my locks replaced straight away."
Ms Kidd, a recipient of the Queen's Service Medal for her tireless work, pleaded for the return of her cellphone and the donations. "Otherwise, I'll have to pay the money back myself."
