Police are investigating a "disturbance" at the Horowhenua Rowing Club in Levin today.
It is understood the club was broken into, and its locks were changed.
The historic club is at the epicentre of a "long running and complex" dispute over Levin's Lake Horowhenua and its surrounding land.
Manawatu Area Commander Inspector Sarah Stewart said police were called to the club today following "reports of a disturbance."
"Police are currently speaking with a number of people to determine the facts of what occurred, which will form part of our ongoing inquiries," she said.
"We are mindful that there are many in the community with strong views on this issue, but our responsibility is to keep the peace, and we will take very seriously any attempt by individuals to take matters into their own hands."
