The man who recently stole a $36,000 ring looks suspiciously like the man who stole a $60,000 ring in April - and both wore black running shoes.
Same crime, same city, same look - coincidence?
A Caucasian man of medium build with glasses and a slightly hooked nose was captured on CCTV at both crimes.
The first time he stole a $60,000 diamond ring from a Michael Hill store at Westfield Mall in Henderson on April 7.
The shopkeeper handed him a white gold solitaire-cut ring and he ran from the store towards Edsel St.
He was wearing black-rimmed glasses, a striped T-shirt, grey shorts, white ankle socks and black running shoes.
Then, on December 13, at a store in Elliott St in Auckland's CBD, a man was handed a diamond solitaire ring valued at more than $36,000 and ran from the store towards Wellesley St.
He wore a blue or grey T-shirt, green shorts and black running shoes.
Pictures supplied by police show the alleged thief had glasses, stubble, and black curly hair or a wig.
A police spokeswoman said were looking into the possibility as to whether the crimes are linked but as this was an operational matter they are unable to comment further.
