KEY POINTS:
A man police have dubbed the "Yellow Robber" is becoming so brazen with the bank robberies he commits that he doesn't even bother implying threats anymore.
When the robber, dressed in a yellow sweater, first struck at the Westpac bank in Papatoetoe a month ago he passed a note across the counter threatening staff while demanding money.
He alleged he had armed accomplices with him and that staff should hand over the money.
The terrified bank teller complied with his demands for cash and he escaped with an undisclosed sum.
But four robberies later the robber has become so relaxed that he has done away with threats.
On Monday, when he walked into a Postshop/Kiwibank he had already robbed this month, he passed a note simply that basically implied 'this is another robbery'.
Despite the lack of threats, the note still worked and for the fourth time in a month the man walked away with an undisclosed sum.
Detective Rob Kerr, who is heading the hunt for the Yellow Robber, said it was worrying the offender was becoming brazen to the point where he did not bother to disguise himself.
"He's just rocking in there quite brazen and he doesn't really care about people recognising him. The teller [in the most recent robbery] recognised him straight away through the door because she has seen the photographs of him [from the last robbery]."
When asked if the man appeared to be on drugs or robbing banks to try and support a habit, Mr Kerr said police could not speculate but "he's not using the money to pay the mortgage."
Mr Kerr appealed for anyone with information about the Yellow Robber to contact police.
"There are four traumatised victims from these four robberies that are the products of his greed."
The latest robbery has prompted the Manukau Postshop/Kiwibank store to post a security guard at the front door. Posters, displaying the Yellow Robber's picture, are also being mounted in banks and nearby shopping areas in the hope someone will recognise him.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Mangere CIB on (09) 250 0512.
