A group of Wanganui schoolgirls involved in a street brawl on Wednesday have been referred to the police youth aid section.
A Wanganui City College student suffered injuries that required hospital treatment in the fight between students from her school and Wanganui High School on St Hill Street around 3.20pm.
Senior sergeant Dave Kirby said the girl, who suffered bruising to her head, had been released from hospital.
Wanganui High School principal Warwick Maguire and City College principal Peter Kaua met yesterday to discuss the incident, The Wanganui Chronicle reported.
Mr Maguire said they were both very disappointed and would work to ensure the same kind of behaviour didn't occur in future.
Mr Kaua said his school had put after-school strategies in place, and staff from both schools were watching nearby bus stops.
Mr Kaua said the fight was between only two girls, although there were several students around.
