Brawl leaves young man seriously ill

A critically injured young man has been undergoing surgery in Auckland Hospital after a street brawl involving more then a dozen youths in Auckland.

He has injuries to his head and body.

Fighting broke out around 11pm, on McKinnon Street off Richardson Road in Waikowhai.

Detective Sergeant Gerry Whitley said it appeared there was a running brawl in which baseball bats and other weapons were used.

McKinnon Street and Laing Avenue have been closed to traffic as police continue scene investigations and question people they believe were involved.
