Police say a brawl that erupted outside a bar and ended with a person being shot in East Auckland was between rival gangs.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ross Ellwood said police were called to the Palm Bar in Highland Park, east Auckland, at around 2am after reports that a man had been shot.
He was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries and remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Ellwood said it appeared a fight had broken out between rival gangs outside the bar.
Police are appealing for people who witnessed the incident or recorded it on camera to come forward.
Inspector Ian Alofa early Saturday morning that there had been a private function underway at the bar when the brawl happened.
