Getting the signatures of All Blacks Dan Carter and Richie McCaw on his bald head made yesterday "the best day of his life" - even though 10-year-old Brad Burt is suffering from cancer, says his father.
Carter and McCaw are rugby mad Brad's favourite players, and Glenn Burt says he is just "absolutely thrilled" to have gotten the autographs during the Captain's Run at Westpac Stadium in Wellington yesterday.
"It's really made his day, and he's just not going to get it off," said Mr Burt.
Mr Burt says Brad loves rugby and was playing rugby just three days before he was diagnosed with brain tumour last year.
"Brad has been a great fan of the All Blacks, and when he was asked by Make-a-wish (Foundation) to make a wish, well he said he really wanted to watch an All Blacks test and meet the All Blacks."
Brad has lost over 10 kgs in the last year, and now weighs only 44 kgs, he said.
From Greytown, the family shuttles between Wellington and Christchurch for his chemotherapy.
Mr Burt said it has been a "crazy journey" for everyone in the family since Brad had cancer, and the All Blacks had really given them "a boost".
"At times, we feel just really helpless, but Brad's a really positive kid, and this just gives him the encouragement he needs to win his battle," said Mr Burt.
