Auckland police were last night looking for up to seven teenagers who allegedly used a hammer and sticks to attack shopkeepers at the Gloucester Superette in Homai, Manurewa.
A 12-year-old boy, Remendra Singh, was taken to Middlemore Hospital with a broken nose after being struck with the hammer.
His cousin Vimlesh Chand said three disorderly youths who were turned away from the shop about 4pm "returned with a group about an hour later and wanted a fight. They had a hammer and sticks but told us they had a gun and a knife".
Mr Chand, his brother-in-law Sunil Kumar and Remendra fought them off and forced them to run off.
Police have caught two youths.
