A 10-year-old suffered suspected neck and back injuries after falling from a rope swing at a remote Coromandel Peninsula beach on Monday morning.
The child was with his family at Pokohino Bay, just north of Onemana, when he fell from the rope he was swinging on and landed backwards onto a log.
The Westpac Auckland Rescue Helicopter arrived about 12pm, landing on the beach near where the child had been put into the recovery position by his parents.
Intensive care paramedic Paul Dillon said the boy was slipping in and out of consciousness and suffered suspected severe back and neck injuries in the fall.
Mr Dillon said the helicopter dropped him off and met with a St John ambulance to bring more paramedics and equipment down to the beach.
