A 13-year-old will return to school after being excluded for anger-related incidents after his father's death a year ago.
Shay McIsaac was stood down from Auckland's Edgewater College in February last year over a fight two days after his dad died. Several weeks later he was excluded after throwing a desk in class and swearing at a teacher.
He and his mother Rochelle promised he would behave if given another chance.
The Herald on Sunday reported last week Rochelle was frustrated by the delay in the Ministry of Education deciding if Shay could return to school.
Herald on Sunday inquiries prompted the ministry to meet Edgewater principal Allan Vester.
McIsaac said Shay would attend alternative education at the ATC TrainMe Centre in Auckland to prepare him for Year 11 in mainstream education next year.
Vester said Shay could return to Edgewater next year after catching up.
