KEY POINTS:
Two men have been sentenced to home detention for causing the death of a Wellington pedestrian while racing their cars.
Amy Edward-Mintorn was hit while she was crossing Cambridge Terrace about 1.30am on August 20 2006.
Ms Edward-Mintorn suffered brain injuries and died in hospital about three hours later,
In the High Court at Wellington today, Neoton Yousif, 20, and David John Hodgson, 19, were sentenced to 10 months home detention.
They were also fined $3000 each and disqualified from driving for four years.
Yousif was driving the car that hit Ms Edward-Mintorn.
Both men earlier pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death.
Justice Ronald Young said that although Yousif struck the young woman both were equally responsible.
He said: "How many deaths of young men and women have to occur before this madness of racing cars on public streets stops?"
The trial of a third man on dangerous driving causing death from the same incident starts today.
