A 7-year-old boy was flown to hospital in Hawke's Bay this afternoon after swallowing part of a drinking straw.
The Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter was called to the small rural town of Takapau at 3pm, after it was found the boy had an airway obstruction.
He was flown to Hawke's Bay Regional Hospital for further treatment.
A road ambulance also attended the incident, a spokesman from the ambulance central communications centre said.
The boy was in a stable condition, and has since been discharged from hospital.
