Boy killed in crash named

A 3-year-old boy killed in the Far North on Tuesday when a tourist bus collided with two other vehicles has been named as Harlan Batters-Ellis, of Kaeo.

The accident happened on State Highway 10 near Kaeo, about 70km southeast of Kaitaia.

Police said early investigations indicated the car he was in crossed on to the wrong side of the road while trying to avoid vehicles at the scene of an earlier crash.

It hit a tourist bus travelling in the opposite direction.

The dead boy was properly secured in a child seat in the rear.
