A message in a bottle has washed up on a Whangarei beach to the delight of an eleven-year-old boy who found it.
Two years and four months have passed since the bottle was released off Australia, the Northern Advocate newspaper reports.
Matt Wakelin found the bottle while walking on the beach at Wharewa Bay, between Ngunguru Sandspit and the Horahora River, on Sunday.
It contained a letter from Kevin Ross, a Brisbane-based man who put the bottle in the ocean on August 8, 2005, in the Bass Strait.
