A 10-year-old boy was killed after his horse bolted, dragging him for some distance yesterday.
Police and emergency services were called to an address in Waiomio, Far North at 6.30pm.
Police were working to contact distant family members.
A St John's ambulance spokeswoman said they received the call at 6.23pm. They
transported the boy in a critical condition to Bay of Islands Hospital but he died soon afterwards.
Police said the matter has been referred to the Coroner.
