A 15-year-old Takaka boy has died in Wellington Hospital after being hit by a car on State Highway 60 on Wednesday evening.
Samuel Bowker-Napp of Onekaka, 127km northwest of Nelson, had been on life support, police said.
He was airlifted to Wellington with serious injuries after he was struck crossing the Takaka to Collingwood highway at Onekaka with his sister.
His sister was not hurt.
Police were continuing an investigation into the incident.
The matter has been referred to the coroner.
