A 10-year-old boy has died following a firearms incident in Northland.
Dargaville detectives are at the scene but police are refusing to go into detail about the situation.
However, they have said the death involved a firearm and is not being treated as suspicious.
Ambulance Northern Communications spokesman Brett Tobeck said they were called out at around 8.30am and transported a ten-year-old boy to Dargaville Medical Centre.
He said the boy was dead on arrival. Mr Tobeck could not confirm whether the ten-year-old was shot.
No other details, including the name of the dead boy, were immediately available.
Police said a post-mortem examination would be carried out and the matter referred to the Coroner.
