A small boy is fighting for his life in Auckland's Middlemore Hospital tonight after being knocked down by a light truck.
Police said the six-year-old boy was hit about 5pm at Gray Avenue, Papatoetoe. He suffered a head injury and his condition was described as critical.
He was taken to Middlemore Hospital for CAT scans and his parents are with him.
The truck driver remained at the scene and was talking to police.
Police said it appeared the boy ran on to the road. Speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors.
