KEY POINTS:
A 12-year-old boy was in the Starship hospital with critical head and internal injuries late last night after a car hit him in Manukau City.
The youngster was struck on Donegal Park Drive in Flat Bush about 1.30pm yesterday.
Police Inspector Ian Brooker said it appeared the boy might have stepped out of a driveway into the path of the car.
The driver gave first aid.
