KEY POINTS:
A 7-year-old boy helped the police to find hidden drugs during a raid in which his parents were arrested yesterday.
Five people were taken into custody after police swooped on a Mt Roskill Housing New Zealand home looking for opiate-based "home bake" drugs. The narcotics are often crushed and injected intravenously.
Inside the dirty, cluttered home, officers found dozens of pills, capsules and used needles, cannabis and more than $2000 cash.
The 7-year-old - who will have a birthday on Monday - chatted to police during the raid, even helping them to find the drugs.
"Yip, they sell these," he said, while standing on a chair and pointing to tablet containers in overhead kitchen cupboards.
Child, Youth and Family staff were called and the boy was put in the care of another family member.
A 17-year-old girl and a man sat in an upstairs hallway, their hands tied behind their backs, as police overturned beds and scoured drawers looking for drugs.
The girl's boyfriend, also 17, and a 45-year-old man sat handcuffed in the lounge.
Another man was arrested after he arrived at the house during the raid and allegedly pulled a knife on the police.
Officers were quick to restrain him and he was brought crashing to the ground. "I've only got one leg," he yelled during the struggle.
He insisted he needed a notepad that fell from his pocket because it contained his bail address and he needed to know where he lived.
Officers scanned their arms for cuts and scratches after the man said he had hepatitis.
Another woman, 48, and her 18-year-old son arrived in a blue convertible.
Police say the mother was arrested after she attempted to make a getaway while a police officer was holding on through the driver's window.
She was subsequently charged with reckless driving. Her son was charged with assaulting police after he allegedly leaned over from the passenger's seat and punched the officer during the escape attempt.
In the end, the 45-year-old man and 48-year-old woman were charged with possession of morphine sulphate and possession of instruments used to consume the drug.
One of the others in the house during the raid was also arrested on drugs charges.
