A 5-year-old boy has been taken to Tauranga Hospital after being hit by a car in Te Puke's main street.
Western Bay of Plenty acting head of road policing Sergeant Wayne Hunter said the boy was crossing Jellicoe St with his 17-year-old caregiver this morning.
Hunter understood that when they reached the refuge in the middle of the street the boy "bolted" across the road and was hit.
The boy received a "bump on the head" but otherwise seemed uninjured. He was taken to hospital for further assessment and to check he had no fractures.
Police were called to the accident, between Boucher Ave and Oroua St just after 9.30am.
