KEY POINTS:
A 16-year-old boy has been charged with raping a girl while on bail.
Police were looking for the boy for breaching his bail at the time of the alleged attack.
The 15-year-old girl was raped in Matamata on Saturday night.
Detective Sergeant Rod Carpinter said officers carrying out a routine bail check at the boy's address found he was not at home after 9pm and was in breach of his conditions.
"It appears the attack on the 15-year-old local girl has taken place shortly after this, while our staff were out searching for him," he said.
The boy, who was arrested for the alleged rape today, was on bail awaiting sentence for an aggravated robbery.
He was due in the Hamilton Youth Court this afternoon and it was expected the offender would be referred to the District Court this week.
