Hastings police have charged a 15-year-old boy with attempted murder after a youth was stabbed and the blade of the 20cm knife broke off in his stomach.
The boy, from Flaxmere, was arrested yesterday afternoon, said Detective Senior Sergeant Dave de Lange.
The 18-year-old victim was stabbed at 6.50pm on Saturday during a party at his home at Kirkcaldie Cres, Flaxmere. The 15-year-old was known to the victim and ran from the scene after the stabbing.
The victim was treated at the scene before being transferred to Hastings Hospital with the 20cm blade in his stomach. He was flown to Wellington Hospital for emergency surgery to remove the blade.
Mr de Lange said he was in a serious but stable condition yesterday afternoon.
The 15-year-old is due to appear in Hastings Youth Court today.
